FS2004 Splash Screen, 1917 - Sopwith Triplane.
Designed by Sir Thomas Sopwith 1888-1989 in 1916, the prototype Triplane made its first flight on May 28, 1916. The initial tests of the plane were so successful, that the prototype was sent to France for operational testing.

The Fokker Dr 1 'DR' standing for Dreidecker or 3 wings was one of the most famous planes of World War I. This is probably because it was associated with the Red Baron.

Nicknamed "Tante Ju" Auntie Ju and "Iron Annie" by Axis and Allied troops, the Junkers Ju-52 was the most famous German transport of the war. The Ju-52 was built of corrugated metal skin and paid little attention to beauty, features of a typical Junkers design. Parts and pieces stuck out of the airframe, and the corrugated skin, though much stronger than fabric and metal tubes, created stronger air resistance.

The SE-5, along with the Sopwith Camel, were the two most successful fighting aircraft of WW I. The SE-5 eventually had a 150 HP Hispano Suiza powerplant.

The Skyraider's service spans from the last months of WW II to Viet Nam where it was primarily used in a ground support role. Its nickname was the "Spad". Ground troops were glad to see this aircraft coming over the trees.
