FSX Perranporth. Perranporth is Cornwall's only airfield with hard surfaced runways which is privately owned. In 1999 the airfield changed ownership and is undergoing a programme of investment including construction of a new hangar and the opening of a flying school. The airfield was constructed solely for single engined fighters during WWII and retains some of the features of its original construction - two types of dispersal pens, all the defensive structure, pill boxes, slit trenches etc. At the end of WWII hostilities, the local authorities insisted that the hangars and huts were taken down and there are no modern buildings on the airfield. English heritage has scheduled the dispersal pens and other remaining structures as ancient monuments. The airport is still in regular - and growing - use for general aviation and gliding.
