The An-24 has been a highly successful family of twin turboprop civil and military transports, producing several variants. Production versions of the An-24 were the An-24V, An-24T freighter and An-24P firebomber. A small turbojet in the right engine nacelle to boost takeoff performance resulted in the An-24RT and An-24RV.

The An-24 was also developed into the An-26 "Curl" military transport with more powerful engines and redesigned tail. This redesign resulted in the An-32, allowing improved hot temperature and high altitude performance. A distinctive feature of the An-32 is the above-wing mounted engines, giving the larger diameter props adequate ground clearance.

China's Xian Aircraft Manufacturing Company is now the sole production source for the An-24 as the Y7. Developed during the 1980s, the Y7-100 incorporates a number of modifications including a revised passenger interior, flightdeck and wingtip winglets.
