FS2004/FSX Brewster Buffalo F2a3 Shipboard Fighter. In 1939, the F2A became the first monoplane fighter aircraft used by the US Navy. Later versions had a more powerful Wright R-1820-40 Cyclone engine of 1,200 hp, 895 kw, a better propeller, and integral flotation gear, but still lacked pilot armor and self-sealing fuel tanks. Both the F2A-2 and the F2A-3 variants of the Brewster were liked by early Navy and Marine pilots, including Pappy Boyington, who praised the good turning and maneuvering abilities of the aircraft. Original model by Thicko. Three versions included. |

FS2004/FSX Lockheed L-1649A Starliner, Version 1.0. The Starliner marked the end of the line of Constellation designs. It had an entirely new wing of greatly increased span, 150 feet as opposed to 123 feet on the "Super G" Constellation, more powerful Wright R-3350 engines spaced further outboard for reduced cabin noise levels, and a strengthened undercarriage to support a gross weight of 160,000 lbs, 138,000 lbs on the Super G,. It was designed to fly the polar routes Los Angeles-London or Paris-Tokyo in just over 21 hours non-stop, and it established numerous long-distance records, many of them still current today. Providing accommodation for ninety-two tourist-class or twenty-six first-class and forty-five tourist-class passengers, the Starliner entered service with TWA in May 1957. Other operators included Air France and Lufthansa. It was arguably the largest, widest-range, and most expensive piston-engine airliner of its day, reportedly $3,219,550.00,. While, in the real world, work has begun on bringing one of surviving Starliners back to flying status, you can get the factory-fresh prototype, fittingly registered N1649, for nothing here. Model and textures by Manfred Jahn, 2D-panel by Hansjoerg Naegele, effects and flight dynamics a communal effort by the FS9 Starliner team. Note well that, this being a W.I.P. release, there is no VC yet, the documentation is incomplete, the flight dynamics are tentative, and a proper soundset will have to be downloaded separately. See the Starliner project thread at www.calclassic.com for FAQs, future plans, fictional L-1549 model, paintkit, VC-equipped 1649A, and a host of rare historical, technical, and pictorial material. |

FS2002/FS2004 Grumman G-22 Gulfhawk II. One of the most exciting aerobatic aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s was the Grumman Gulfhawk II, built by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation in Bethpage, Long Island, for the Gulf Oil Companies. This sturdy civilian biplane, powered by a Wright Cyclone R-1820-GI 1,000 hp engine and a three-blade Hamilton Standard propeller, nearly matched the F3F standard Navy fighter that was operational at that time. Modifications were made in the construction to withstand the high-load factors encountered during aerobatics and the aircraft was equipped for inverted flying for periods of up to half an hour. |

FS2002 Vans Rv4. Soon after the single-seat RV-3 was introduced, it became obvious that a lot of people wanted to share their RV Grin with a friend. Van realized that he wasn't going to be able to talk them into building two RV-3s. He set out to design a two-place airplane that performed and handled as much like the RV-3 as possible. This was not as easy as just "stretching the RV-3."
